New Government IAG strategy: U-Explore has the answers
27/10/09
U-Explore up and running with support and delivery of DCSF’s new careers education strategy, fit for the 21st Century
Following the recommendations in the Government’s new careers education strategy published this week, U-Explore celebrate the realignment of Careers IAG within schools and believe it demonstrates a breakthrough in the approach and requirement to modernise Careers Education in all schools for all learners.
Information as inspiration is cited in the strategy as a tenet by which all IAG should be prepared and delivered. This is a magnificent principle by which all IAG must now be sought after and provided. We endorse the requirement for this provision to be quality assured and its effectives not judged as a fixed point but on its responsiveness and readiness to all future needs.
U-Explore Interactive supports local authorities, schools, the Connexions service and parents across the country already achieving this step change in approach, guaranteeing this new standard of Careers IAG, ensuring all young learners in Primary and Secondary education are armed with transferable skills so to be work ready.
As the DCSF articulates, U-Explore is not alone in believing the best careers education can have a profound impact on the learning outcomes and skills a young person develops throughout their education.
A fit for 21st Century strategy must be aimed at fulfilling the potential for all students. It advises careers education must be authentic and responsive, with insight and context for the curriculum being taught whilst supporting all abilities of learner and professional in doing so.
It goes further, to advocate the use of online web-based information that is not simply referred but embedded across curriculum and matched to learning outcomes. It indicates technology as the enabler to achieve these ambitions, insisting IAG needs to be a cumulative, active process, rather than passive or merely a single event. These are the cornerstones of development at U-Explore where we have long held the view the best IAG listens and responds to need of learner and professional.
Accredited training from Jan 2010 across the country demonstrates how we are working with Senior Leadership Teams who have already, as the strategy now advocates, re-aligned IAG as a priority in their school or Local Authority area.
Visual, media based content offering hands on and practical support for the student’s learning must be matched by the resource and accredited support for the teacher or professional responsible for delivery demonstrates the comprehensive solution required to achieve the changes the DCSF are now advocating as statutory.
U-Explore have been recognized by the Minister of State for Schools and Learners as being an innovative resource for helping link students with employers. Vernon Coaker MP was given a special demonstration of U-Explore Interactive as part of a visit to Hull to see how U-Explore is already implementing 14-19 education reforms. The Minister said "It's exciting to see young people so enthusiastic about learning and developing their skills as part of the Diploma course. They, along with teachers and support staff should be congratulated. "It was interesting to see how innovative, interactive careers advice, information and guidance tools like U-Explore Interactive are helping link students with their potential employers."
U-Explore already supports the following Government requirements for Careers IAG fit for the 21st Century
In the following weeks we will be dedicating a full week to each area specifically mentioned in the report. And how we are already supporting Local Authorities, Schools & Colleges, the Connexions service and Parents respond to the Government’s new Careers IAG Strategy and provide solutions for some of the new requirements.
