PRESS RELEASE: Plotr joins the U-Explore family

Leading careers guidance company U-Explore acquires employment advice and inspiration website Plotr

Careers guidance company U-Explore – creators of the UK’s fastest growing careers software ‘Start’ – has acquired employment advice and inspiration website Plotr as part of its strategy to deliver high quality careers information to young people across the UK.

The acquisition will drive much needed consolidation in the fragmented careers market place and investment in improved products and services to guide students through the complex decisions on their journey through education to employment.

Plotr was set up in 2012, with the objective of providing online tools to help 11-24 year olds discover the world of work. The acquisition will ensure the service can be developed and enhanced for the benefit of young people.

Leeds-based U-Explore was launched in 2008 and acquired in 2013 by Matthew Riley, Founder and Executive Chairman of the £600 million-turnover IT and communications service provider Daisy Group and one of Sir Alan Sugar’s advisors on The Apprentice. Through Matthew’s investment U-Explore has launched free careers software ‘Start’ and is committed to addressing the weaknesses in the careers guidance market place. More than 1,250 schools now use the software which supports young people’s career decision-making and exploration of the labour market and education system.

Plotr will become part of the U-Explore family with both the Plotr and Start products continuing as free resources for schools to utilise and not dependent on government funding.

Jim Carrick-Birtwell, CEO of Plotr commented: “This acquisition ensures sustainable investment in Plotr enabling it to continue to deliver on its mission of providing inspiring, real time, relevant and personalised career information free for all young people, irrespective of their background. The combined assets and leadership of Plotr and U-Explore strengthens both services and provides an exciting platform for growth. We look forward to working with U-Explore’s committed team to build scalable, technology-enabled solutions for young people, educators and employers.”

Andy Pickles, CEO of U-Explore said: “Plotr offers a comprehensive source of relevant and useful information and Start provides the tools to match that content to students based on their suggested career paths. The two services complement each other brilliantly and the acquisition instigates much needed consolidation within what has been a fragmented marketplace. Combining U-Explore and Plotr’s market coverage, positions the combined entity as the clear market leader, with a sustainable growth plan.

“At present there is a ‘choice overload’, as identified in the recent Careers Enterprise Company report. Our aim is to simplify the paths available for the benefit of students and implement a sustainable and successful approach for the delivery of careers education.”
