U-Explore's response to The Prince's Trust report
11/08/10U-Explore welcomes The Prince’s Trust report highlighting the greater need for role models for younger generations in education preparing for work. The Prince’s Trust highlighted this week the increasing levels of young people who feel destined to join their parents on the dole as concerns for growing levels of unemployment persist.
U-Explore’s Chief Executive, Andy Pickles said, responding to this report; “Preparing young people for the ever changing world of work has to be the number one priority for education and training. This preparation needs to be based on reality that includes, yes, it can be tough to find or keep in work but also expresses the huge opportunities that exist for all young people. At U-Explore we believe the best way to ensure this is through independent information advice and guidance and linking education with employment opportunities.”
The report by The Prince’s Trust summarises its findings as follows;
• 39 per cent worry they will never find a good job
• 49 per cent have no role models whose jobs they respect
• 1 in 5 (18 per cent) of those from jobless families expect to end up on benefits
• 25 per cent say their parents don’t have the knowledge to help them get a job
• 1 in 10 haven't even thought about a careers
• 70 per cent have struggled to find a job
U-Explore is working with over 800 secondary schools in the country and Local Authorities determined to offer young people an alternative destination in life than worklessness. Providing reality based information advice and guidance via the web schools and learners can explore content designed to ensure good role models are highlighted throughout the workplace.
